Key Facts:
- Najib is regarded as political aristocracy -- he is the son of Abdul Razak Hussein, Malaysia's second Prime Minister, and the nephew of the third.
- Received his early education in Malaysia before continuing at Malvern Boy's College, Worcestershire, England and taking a bachelors degree in Industrial Economics at Nottingham University.
- Holds record as the youngest candidate in a Malaysian election at age 22 in 1976 after the death of his father left vacant the Pekan constituency in his home state of Pahang.
- Is Malaysia's most experienced serving politician with a three-decade career in government including as Deputy Energy Minister and Chief Minister of his home state. Has also served in the Cabinet holding the Youth, Education and Defence portfolios.
- Became Malaysia's sixth Prime Minister on April 2009, succeeding Abdullah Ahmad Badawi who bows out after the ruling coalition is hit by record losses in the 2008 general election.
- Took office pledging economic and political reforms. Najib has delivered measures such as granting new bank licenses and cutting the fiscal deficit but has shied away from big subsidy cuts and tax reforms. He has also reversed tack on controversial preferential equity ownership rules for the majority ethnic Malays, wary of a political backlash.

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is delighted with the response to his Facebook page, which has recorded 101,237 fans.

"I am moved by this response and by the interest you continue to show in my posts," the Prime Minister said in a Facebook posting yesterday.

He thanked them for becoming his fans and for helping to make the page an engaging forum.
